The Chaco region appears as a repeated destination within the corpus of texts
of travelers who write in German about Argentina, specifically between 1870 and
1970. Three are the purposes of their travels: scientific research, exploration of
the area as a possible destination for colonization and thirst of adventures. Both,
the purpose of the trip and the receiving public are two lines of force that are put
into play for the analysis of the texts of this research, as well as the image of the
Chaco that they evidence. The descriptions provided by the authors studied are
presented with the tools of Imagology and the investigation concludes by hypoth-
esizing the reasons that influence the different views on the region.
Robert Kelz, “Pedagogic Theatre in the Antagonic German Groups in Buenos
Aires, 1940-65”.
In this essay, I analyze pedagogical theatrical performances in Buenos Aires‘
antagonistic German-speaking populations with reference to 1) the diversity of
dramatic productions on German stages; 2) the formation and consolidation of
two distnct and often conflicting German communities during the Second World
War and the Cold War; 3) the integration of German-speaking immigrants into
Argentine society.
