El pintor de la Suiza argentina: literatura de
investigación y activismo literario

Resumen

Este artículo se propone analizar las modalidades literarias de construcción
de un narrador-investigador autobiográfi co en El pintor de la Suiza argentina
(1991; 2024) de Esteban Buch y la manera en la que, a través de un doble
pacto de lectura documental y literario, el libro arroja luz sobre la presencia
de nazis en San Carlos de Bariloche e indaga sobre el antisemitismo como
un “agujero” en la historia personal del autor. Por el carácter factual de la in-
vestigación –que se apoya en entrevistas, testimonios, archivos históricos y
documentos de prensa–, así como por su estructura a medio camino entre el
ensayo y la narración autobiográfi ca, este libro, que consideraremos desde la
óptica de la “literatura de investigación”, nos conduce a analizar las razones
que llevaron a los habitantes de la comunidad a respetar un pacto tácito de
silencio acerca del pasado nazi de algunos de sus miembros más destacados.

Literature and Literary Activism

Abstract

This article seeks to analyse the construction of an autobiographical narra-
tor-researcher in Esteban Buch’s El pintor de la Suiza argentina (1991; 2024)
and the way in which the book, through a double pact of documentary and
literary reading, illuminates the presence of Nazis in San Carlos de Barilo-
che and investigates anti-Semitism as a “wound” in the author’s personal
history. Thanks to the factual nature of the research - based on interviews,
testimonies, historical archives and press documents - and its structure,
halfway between essay and autobiographical narrative, this book, which
we will consider from the point of view of “investigative literature”, allows
us to analyse the reasons that led the inhabitants of the community to res-
pect a tacit pact of silence on the Nazi past of some of its most prominent
members.
